This is a crazy quilt I finally made using silk scraps I had saved from several shows and projects through the years. Perhaps I shouldn’t admit this – it may only serve to reinforce slight hoarding behaviors : ) I kept ONE bag of scraps (no more!) and set a time limit on the project. What finally spurred me over the edge was seeing the Amish Quilt show at the De Young Museum with my fellow stitcher, Pam. I knew I had little desire to do the traditional crazy quilt pattern with all that edge embroidery, too fussy for my taste. There was a wonky Log Cabin quilt in the exhibit that just hit my sensibilities the right way…and here we are : )
So this quilt was essentially free. All the fabrics are scraps, the trims are bits left over that I threw into a bag just for this purpose, the only thing I bought specifically for this project was the backing fabric. OK, so the whole thing was about $12.00. Pretty nifty, eh? And what better was to celebrate this festive day than with something bright and festive?!
We pulled out ALL the sparkle! Silver candle holders, glass ornaments to complement the quilt colors and how could we have a party and not invite the Fiestaware? Plum starts off the fun and because I couldn’t decided between colors each setting is a little different.
The right side of the table…
…and now the left…
…and now around back. Just as I was about the get the other side with the radioactive red plate there arose such a clatter so I sprang from around back to see what was the matter…
There was a dog under the table, that had discovered the cats lounging on the chairs and everyone was hiding under the cloth.
She came sheepishly out, wagging her tail : ) The cats stayed on the chairs figuring they had found a great place to hide for the day. What they REALLY wanted to play with was the centerpiece–
They will be the FIRST to tell you that putting small round objects on either a tree or a table and NOT allowing the cats to play with them is just cruel. They lived : )
We just had to light the candles : )
We hope everyone has a happy and joyful Christmas day!
Just for fun, here is a link to someone who has taken the whole Christmas light thing to heights even Clark Griswold would love this:
As the story goes, the guy that owns this house lives north of Cincinnati, Ohio…Police were constantly being called for traffic jams and accidents in the neighborhood so they asked him to shut it down during certain hours. Instead he started charging by the car load to pay off duty police to be there. The guy is supposedly a real computer GEEK : )
Now we come the the FUN part of the day, and our next challenge…
On the First day of Christmas my true love gave to me –
A Partridge in a pear tree!
I don’t know about the rest of you but I was a HUGE Partridge family fan back in the day. This whole table makes me ridiculously happy!
Today IS the first day of Christmas, there are eleven more to go. See the theme here? But this isn’t your average 12 days of Christmas, this is OUR version. Hang on for the ride!
11 days of Christmas left…178 days to go!!
