Day 115 – Fall greens

Lime green daffodils : )

Have you ever heard of such a thing? I know they printed all kinds of stuff on tablecloths, most had some footing in the real world (except the blue fruit…) and so I wondered about lime green daffodils.

Turns out, they exist! However, what the growers call ‘green’ and what I’d call ‘green’ aren’t quite the same. Of the 28,000 varieties registered with the Royal Horticultural Society only 7 are ‘green’. Ah well…

Spring and fall meet

So yes, I guess you could technically say that the daffodils and lillies of the valley pictured on this cloth make it spring but I really liked the idea of these colors for fall and when I saw the chrysanthemum at Trader Joe’s that sealed the deal!

This cloth came from one of our best stops along the 127 Yard Sale. I bought the cloth and the sweet little burgundy creamer & sugar from the wonderful mom/daughter team we met at the  Sargent York park in Tennessee. And just because it SO squarely fit into the ‘kitsch’ category, and was the perfect color, I bought the plastic salt & pepper shakers as well : )

Kitsch at its finest : )

For a dollar how could I pass these up? They were even imprinted so I’d always remember where they originally hailed from.  My mother thought I was crazy and there was considerable eye-rolling but there you are. That’s what moms are supposed to do, right?

A conglomeration of prints

I decided to go for eclectic here. The bottom plate is clearly some hideous creation from the 70′s, the color isn’t quite avocado ( a little too yellow) but it has the cutesy country thing we tried for about 10 minutes. The middle plates are my recent Tar-jay finds (can you believe that color is IN right now, and the bigger question is WHY???) and the bowls were a 127 Sale find in the middle of Kentucky.

The bakelite silverware is vintage but I’m not sure if it was originally red or a darker color. Its quite burnished, most likely from a dishwasher and harsh detergent, but so good for this setting it doesn’t matter. The napkins were in my latest haul from the amazing Nadine and the green glasses are IKEA. Gotta love IKEA : )

The center of the cloth : )

The center of the cloth is so pretty I thought it deserved its own picture : )

Last week someone had the cutest picture on facebook. I am putting up my own version here since he decided to take a nap, a foot hit something on the keyboard and wiped out the first version of this post : )

Ashton kitty!

Tomorrow – Not so fall : )

I had a souvenir S&P set like that when I was young! I collected salt and pepper shakers, and had the orange version of the one above, from “The Midwest Old Settlers and Threshers Reunion” (a huge retro party of another kind!) FYI: the hollow handle is meant to serve as a toothpick holder. :)
